1. Should I pick CentOS6 or Ubuntu?
2. How much bandwidth and server space including RAM should I buy if I'm expecting around 100-500 visitors a day.

I will be creating a site like pornhub. Basically an adult streaming site like pornhub and sextube

1.) CentOS will allow you to use cPanel
2.) 100-500 visitors typically wont use much bandwidth but it depends on the size of your videos and how your server is configured. 1-2GB RAM should be sufficient but again it will depend on how you configure your server.

You should be fine with a VPS to start. It's fairly common to find a VPS with unlimited bandwidth (dedicated servers are typically metered) but the storage space is pretty limited with VPS. However, some hosts will not actually honor unlimited bandwidth so be careful.

STAY AWAY FROM CIRTEX!!

If your site gets big you'll want to move to a dedicated server with streaming server. If your site gets really big then you'll need multiple servers for load balancing.

I plan on keeping 3 servers when the site gets big because it's going to be streaming with max. 30 mins videos which will take a lot of bandwidth and space so I plan on keeping 3 servers after around 5 months of the launch.

True CentOS allows Cpanel and ubuntu doesn't but I plan on using something free and hard such as webmin so I can learn new stuff as well. I plan on buying cpanel license later though.

I'm wondering what is the recommended settings for the server which majority of the people use?

Start small. Dream big.

Thats the best advice I can give you.

Building a successful site is A LOT of hard work and doesn't just happen overnight.

HIGHLY doubt you'll need 3 servers anytime soon. One dedicated server with multiple drives should be plenty.

One of my sites gets 20k visitors daily and it's still on a VPS server which only costs $40 a month.

Install a streaming server like lighttpd or nginx to optimize bandwidth consumption and have some good statistics software so you have a very good idea of how many visitors your getting and how much bandwidth they are consuming.

Knowledge is power.

Wow that's surprising.

Thanks for the tip and I'm planning to use awstats. BTW my current server specs are the following:

CPU
0.57 GHZ
RAM
384 MB
Disk Space
10 GB
Bandwidth
250 GB

Is that ok for a brand new site using AVS?

That probably won't cut it

You should aim for a VPS with at least....

Dual Core
40GB Storage
1GB RAM
Unlimited Bandwidth

40GB could go very quick, especially if you plan on having SD,HD,and Mobile videos.
