Since several years ffmpeg has nice and easy to use "overlay" filter to watermark either image or text at certain xy position.

Unfortunately many AVS users may have some really old version of ffmpeg, which doesn't support "overlay" filter and there's no chance to overlay video in relatively easy way then.

Also AVS script use mencoder to convert videos, so it's not possible to use ffmpeg filter for same process.

If you decide to overlay video later using pure ffmpeg and overlay filter, this means that video must be reconverted and obviously loose some of quality. This also costs time to reconvert video.

 

It is easy to check if your ffmpeg version supports "overlay" filter.

Form SSH you must type:  ffmpeg -filters

and see if "overlay" is on the list of filters.

 

ffmpeg command to overlay video only is pretty easy to use, eg. to watermark video at bottom-left corner it is like:

ffmpeg -i input_video.mp4 -i logo.png -filter_complex 'overlay=10:main_h-overlay_h-10' output_video.mp4

All media files paths must be relative full paths.

 

Perfect situation is to replace mencoder conversion by ffmpeg conversion and combine it with possible watermark option.

This requires ffmpeg version with "overlay" filter and quite different conversion class to use ffmpeg commands in place of mencoder, leaving all commands to extract sound, and later mux video and sound in one output mp4.

 

I do offer such class which use ffmpeg only, and modification to overlay either image or text in one of four corners, but I do not sell it until I'm sure that user's FFMPEG version is enough for it. I offer free conversion test script with watermark example, unfortunately many are not even able to make use of it or due to language barrier do not understand anything of what is required, how to install all and use.
